Ride a bicycle through the first undersea tunnel in Tongyang built in 1932, and cover 97 km while gazing at the autumn sea of Hallyeohaesang.

This is about the "2026 Tongyeong Granfondo" to be held in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang, on the 17th. Marking its fifth year, the event features a distinctive course that alternates between coastal roads and steep passes. Participants will ride across Tongyeong Bridge, the undersea tunnel, and the Sanyang-eup coastal road, taking in Tongyeong's natural scenery.

The full course is 96.9 km. Starting from Triathlon Plaza, riders pass Tongyeong Bridge, Gwangdo-myeon, Dosan-myeon, Pyeongnim-dong, the Tongyeong undersea tunnel, and the Sanyang-eup coastal road before returning to the start. Unlike typical bicycle races centered on mountainous terrain, this course connects the coastline of Hallyeohaesang and fishing villages.

The highlight of the race is the Tongyeong undersea tunnel. Completed in 1932, this tunnel is about 483 meters long and connects the Tongyeong Peninsula and Mireukdo. It was built about 13.5 meters below sea level at high tide. In the past, cars also used it, but it is now a pedestrian passage. Through this event, participants will have the special experience of passing through an undersea tunnel that is normally difficult to ride through by bicycle.

Despite the beautiful scenery along the coastal road, the course is no pushover. That's because flat stretches and steep climbs repeat in succession. According to route analysis data, the total elevation gain reaches about 1,500 meters.

Participants are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced based on average riding speed. Beginner is 16–20 km/h, intermediate is 21–24 km/h, and advanced is 25 km/h or higher. While focusing on completing the full course, the event will also time certain uphill sections separately to award outstanding participants.

This year's race will cap participation at 2,500. Tongyeong City plans to foster the race as a stay-type sports event linked to local tourism. The city expects that participants visiting with family or club members will help boost local businesses, including lodging and restaurants.

On race day, vehicle traffic will be restricted in stages on major sections of the course for participant safety. Tongyeong City will operate the event with a focus on safety management, while developing it into a flagship sports festival that promotes the natural environment of Hallyeohaesang.
