Distances: 182 km 2885 m
Difficulty: Extreme terrain with frequent steep hills and long sustained climb
Limited to: 20 Participants

Circuito del Abuelo is an open track for advanced and expert riders willing to challenge themselves on a 182k, 2,885+ course and 3 mountain pass make up the route.

The road leaves Etzatlán while it’s still dark and crosses from Jalisco into Nayarit by mid-morning. Three passes wait between you and the return: Plan de Barrancas first, Ahuacatlán in the heat of the day, and Amatlán de Cañas at the end — 11 kilometers averaging 6.7%, with the road climbing back into the mountains the long way home.

We ride it every year on the Saturday closest to August 7th. It’s a tribute. The route doesn’t soften for that — 182 kilometers, 2,885 meters of climbing, the hardest pass saved for last. August is green season; the road runs through forests that don’t look like this any other month. Support car behind from kilometer one.
