Reserva de los Encinos is an open track for advanced and expert riders. In fact, it’s designed to challenge even the most skilled cyclists. The course itself is a demanding 100 kilometers, with over 2,659 meters of elevation gain. To add to the challenge, three mountain passes make up the route, testing your endurance and climbing abilities.

The road leaves Reserva de los Encinos before sunrise and runs through agave fields as the light comes in. By kilometer thirty the gradient turns up — El Salvador, fifteen kilometers at 7.2%, with the canyon of the Río Santiago opening on the right. Santa Rosa follows: longer but less steep. The last climb is Los Encinos — 3.6 kilometers averaging 11.1%, with the oak forest closing over the road.

We picked this route because it has three different climbs and rewards three different efforts. El Salvador is about pacing. Santa Rosa is about patience. Los Encinos is about what you have left. July is when the road runs through the green season and the forest holds the heat. Support car behind from kilometer one.
